The escalating China-U.S. trade war will disrupt global supply chains.

In recent issues, we have argued that the real trade war is about sensitive technologies for the future. The deepening trade war is occurring on multiple fronts, ranging from intensifying competition in AI, quantum computing, 5G wireless, and genomics to banned component sales to China’s state champions, and blocked takeovers. Last week, President Trump unveiled 25% tariffs on $50 billion of Chinese imports. This week, Trump directed the U.S. Trade Representative to identify an additional $200 billion worth of Chinese goods for tariffs of 10%.
