What the booming “natural” beauty industry portends about shifting consumer attitudes.

Over the past few years, the traditional cosmetics industry has been turned upside down by a parallel industry devoted to “natural” and “clean” beauty products.  Consumers have flocked to these alternatives because they are increasingly concerned about ingredients in traditional products, most notably BPAs, parabens, phthalates and sulfates.  It is not difficult to see how consumers became afraid of these chemicals in the first place.
